Jørgen-Frantz Jacobsen’s classic from 1939 Barbara has now been published in Egypt.

Barbara is a story of infatuation and vanity. It is the only novel by Jørgen-Frantz Jacobsen.

The novel is set in the 1700s and Barbara is the widow of two former pastors when the ship Fortuna arrives, bringing Poul, the new pastor. Poul is warned about Barbara, but he falls for her charms. Barbara has genuine feelings for Poul but cannot resist the attention of other men.

Barbara is published by Egyptian publisher Sefsafa, and Maysara Salah Eldin has translated the novel into Arabic from the 2013 English translation by W. Glyn Jones.
