Thrilling norse-inspired YA fantasy with a wide range of fierce women of the Nordic past: shieldmaidens, vølvas, rune readers and healers.

WHEN 14-YEAR-OLD SAGA sees the ghostly vision of a shieldmaiden, Thyra Silfralitta, she knows she’s bound by blood to her. Thyra died in the great Southlands War, but her final wish — to have her Bones returned to the North — hasn’t been fulfilled. So Saga sets off alone, with only her wolf Skinnhvíti at her side, to honor the oath she made to the fallen warrior. But the journey ahead is fraught with peril. Karis, a rune-reader, warns Saga that her path is full of danger, and that she must hide who she truly is.

Saga’s journey will take her far from home, to learn the ancient arts of the shieldmaiden, where she’ll discover not only the strength to fight but the courage to face her own dark secrets.
