A groundbreaking poetry collection that brings queer desire, longing, and self-discovery into the landscape of contemporary Faroese literature.
With striking lyricism and emotional honesty, Beinir Bergsson explores themes of identity, sexuality, memory, and belonging. Set against vivid natural landscapes, the poems move between youthful desire and moments of reflection, pairing sensuality with tenderness, joy with melancholy.
Widely regarded as a landmark work, The Suntrap is the first explicitly queer poetry collection published in the Faroe Islands. Through a fresh and distinctive poetic voice, Bergsson opens new literary territory while exploring experiences that resonate far beyond national borders.
Beinir Bergsson (b. 1997) is one of the most exciting voices of a new generation of Faroese writers. In 2018, he received the Ebba Prize, awarded to young Faroese authors of exceptional promise. Alongside his literary work, he is a prominent commentator on contemporary culture and co-host of the arts programme Samværi on KVF, the Faroese national broadcaster.
