Bárður Oskarsson's "The Tree" published in Croatia
The popular and award-winning illustrated children’s book “The Tree” (Træið - 2017 - BFL) by Bárður Oskarsson has now been published in Croatia by publisher Stope in translation by Lana Momirski.
The story is about two friends, Bob and Hilbert. Bob is intrigued by what might be on the other side of the tree. Only once has he been by the tree to have a look, but he didn’t dare go further. Bob’s friend Hilbert claims that he’s been on the other side of the tree several times. He even says that he’s flown around the world using his own wings, despite him being a dog. Bob isn’t quite sure what to believe …
Croatia is the 13th country to translate and publish “The Tree”. Oskarsson’s ability to convey the complexities of human perspective and emotions through captivating, witty illustrations is why his work is being so widely translated.
Bárður Oskarsson received the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize in 2018 for “The Tree.”
