New non fiction about Faroese art in English

At Eye Level: On 21st Century Contemporary Faroese Art is a non-fiction book by art critic Kinna Poulsen. It was originally published in 2025 by Sprotin and now Sprotin has published it in English translation by Marita Thomsen.

At the moment there is a major nordic art exhibition in Scandinavia House in New York where Kinna Poulsen is one of the curators. The release of the English translation is a part of the campaign.

At Eye Level: On 21st Century Contemporary Faroese Art covers contemporary art in the Faroe Islands, focusing mainly on artworks exhibited from 2020 onwards. Over 9 chapters, the book highlights the works of many artists, both Faroese and international, who have had their art displayed in the country. The book is based on observations that the author has made over her many years as an art critic. Some of the artists featured in the book are Bárður Oskarsson, Tróndur Patursson, Bárður Jákupsson, Zacharias Heinesen and Hansina Iversen, to name a few.

Kinna Poulsen is an art critic and teacher in Danish and Visual Arts. She has written art and cultural reviews since the mid 1990’s and several books focusing on works by individual Faroese artists, including Bárður Oskarsson, Tóroddur Poulsen and Steffan Danielsen.
