Newly translated picture books
Two Faroese children’s books have recently been translated and published in respectively Croatia and Estonia.
“Wilbert” is a picture book by Bárður Oskarsson and was published in 2016 by BFL. A rat and Wilbert are playing hide-and-seek. A crocodile wants to help the rat, but it is not as simple as the crocodile had imagined.
“Wilbert is published in Denmark, Norway, Germany, Canada/US, the UK, Korea and now also in Croatia by Stope in translation by Lana Momirski.
Stope states their motivation for publishing Wilbert: In one simple sentence — because it made us laugh out loud the first time we read it. With just the right amount of text to hold children’s attention and simple yet expressive illustrations, Bárður Oskarsson creates an entirely original world and delivers a story that is both thought-provoking and genuinely funny. Wilbert is creative, witty, quirky, and heartwarming — and that’s exactly why we chose him.
"Áh Óh" is a picture book for toddlers by Jenny Kjærbo and was published in 2015 by BFL. The book is about a young puffin who is asked to look after an egg. But the puffin gets annoyed because it doesn't understand why this particular egg needs such special care and attention. Jenny Kjærbo has written and illustrated the book and is currently working on the sequel about the puffins.
“Áh óh” is published in Denmark, USA, Chile, Hungary and now also in Estonia by NORÐUR in translation by Andry Arro.
