New from Tóroddur Poulsen

Tóroddur Poulsen, arguably the most productive poet on the Faroese literary scene, has released his 51st poetry collection. Poulsen is known for his seemingly minimalistic writing style, which upon closer inspection reveals layers of ambiguity in its often dream-like, surreal and abstract contents. This style is reflected in the titles and artwork of his poetry collections, and this latest collection is no exception. Sláttrir – which translates to beating or the act of beating in English – conjures several images in the reader’s mind; from music to cardiology. The latter half of the poetry collection, appropriately entitled “Sláttrir,” is a vivid description of the first-person narrator’s experience of suddenly collapsing while painting and ending up in hospital in Copenhagen for a pacemaker insertion.
