Vónbjørt Vang: Rights sold to Estonia

Vónbjørt Vang’s award-winning poetry collection Svørt orkidé – Black Orchid in English will soon be published in Estonia. It is translated by Andry Arro and will be published by Nordur in May.

In Svørt Orkidé the poet describes a mother’s experience of having a son struggling and finding his path in life. Faced with difficulty finding the proper expression, the work provides the hardships of motherhood an artistic language through poems, lyrical glimpses, essayistic parts, collages, flashbacks and diary excerpts with references and quotes from the history of literature. The poetry collection was published alongside the essay Úr loggbókunum by the Faroese publishing house Eksil in 2024.

Vónbjørt recieved the Nordic Council Literature Prize 2025 for Svørt Orkidé.

She has previously published poems and short stories in books and magazines. Her first poetry collection, Millumlendingar was published in 2011, followed by Djúpini in 2017. The texts explore deep human relationships, often examining how these are anchored in time and place.
